As things slow down now for me due to the cold and dark winter approaching Sweden, I finally have time to work on my personal summer photos.

We love to travel. Nothing better then escaping your routine and getting lost in another culture. We hardly ever book package deals. It is AirBnB, boutique hotels, even motels that we like to stay at. Package trips to All-inclusive have their place. Especially when the kids were little and we were extremely worn down by every day life, sleepless nights and endless chores, having a place where we got fed 3 times a day and had to do nothing, was lovely. But now its back to adventures. The kids travel so well now. Eat almost everything (see my 11 year old eat oysters in Croatia was priceless), they adjust to sleeping in unknown beds and don’t mind driving around for a day. Even though when my husband took us to find the „secret beach” and it was getting dark and we were literally in the middle of nowhere next to a deep cliff, they might have gotten a bit nervous.

Croatia is stunning. We kept saying that this is how it must have been on Mallorca before the tourism hit. Small villages, secluded beaches everywhere, such clear water. Amazing. The people are lovely and warm.
We flew into Dubrovnik and out of Split and visited the island of Korcula and Krka National park on the way. The best tip for those of you going…eat at the Konoba’s. Traditional, family run restaurants. Often farm to table and always great prices and fresh food. Some of our favourites can be found in the photos.

Another fun thing we didn’t know was that Croatia is big into Water Polo. Every village by the ocean (aka a lot of them as the country is so narrow on the southern part of the country), had a water polo field. We really enjoyed watching the games and even watched a US team from California play.

But one of the best experiences was eating in a ”waterfall” in Krka National park.  An old mill had been transformed into a konoba and the river that used to operate the mill now runs literally through the restaurant. The most amazing, cooling experience at 3o Degrees.

Trivia fact…my childhood memories came alive as I could almost see Winnetou and Old Shatterhand come over the hill on their horses. For those of you who are German, you know what I mean.
